No To Branston Power Station

You will no doubt have seen the plans by to build a 960 Megawatt gas power station on the Centrum 100 site in Branston. We believe that building the power plant at this location would be bad for the environment, bad for the local residents and bad for Burton.

We recognise the need to build power stations to meet our energy needs, but we believe that locating such a large plant near to residential properties in Branston is wrong.

We specifically oppose the plan because of concerns over:-

• The negative impact on air quality in Burton, already a problem locally.
• The 55m chimney (bigger than the Coors tower) will scar the local skyline.
• Noise pollution will blight the lives of local residents.
• The impact on the local canal network from the pipeline needed to feed the power station.
• Traffic problems on local roads – not only during the estimated 3 year construction period, but during the life of the plant.

Your local Conservative Councillors, Richard Grosvenor, Patricia Ackroyd and Mick Bowering are concerned about the proposed plant. It is essential that we show the strength of local feeling. If you too share our concerns, I would ask you to sign the petition on this site and ask your family and friends to do the same. The more signatures we get, the better our chances to defeat the plans. In addition, if you support our campaign, please print off the poster and place it in your window.
