PROMISES that the “vast majority” of jobs at a proposed gas power station will go to Burton workers have been thrown into doubt by campaigners.

ESB International had promised to give most of the 50 full-time jobs at its proposed Centrum 100-based plant to workers from the Burton area.

But politicians campaigning to block the plant have revealed, earlier this year, workers at the other UK station being built by ESB went on strike over the number of overseas workers employed there.

A MAJOR campaign to 'save Burton's skyline' has been launched following the bid to build a power station close to the A38.

Petitions and posters will be sent to homes near where developers want to position the £500 million, 960 megawatt facility.

A new website, www.notobranstonpowerstation.com, has also been set up in opposition to the plans at Centrum West, next to the Palletforce warehouse.
